New Features added to IRS Online Tax Account Tool.

The IRS online tax account tool debuted in December of 2016, and at the time offered basic features such as balance lookup and different payment options.

Last week the IRS announced that it had upgraded several aspects of the tool, including tax payment history lookup up to 18 months back, and online transcripts of 1040-series tax returns among other functionalities.

The IRS is asking taxpayers to give feedback on their experience with the online tool and to make suggestions for improvements.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve taxpayers’ interactions with the IRS and adding these new features to the taxpayer’s online account is an important step in that direction,” said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen in a statement.

“The IRS is committed to serving taxpayers in multiple ways and now taxpayers who want to interact digitally with us in a secure environment have access to even more helpful features.”

Features of the tool include:

  • Look up balance due on Taxes
  • Pay balance through various methods
  • View up to 18 months of tax payment history
  • View Payoff ammounts and the tax balace due for each tax year
  • Get online transcripts of Form 1040-series Tax returns through IRS’s Get Transcript Tool
  • Give feedback and suggest improvements
